General Tips on Kitchen Wallpaper Selection, Part 2

In part one of this two-part blog series, we went over some of the unique elements and themes involved in selecting kitchen wallpaper. Many in previous generations didn’t even consider wallpaper in the kitchen, but modern styles and wallpaper formats allow for its use in various ways.

At Wallpaper Warehouse, we’re proud to offer a huge variety of discount wallpaper styles, colors and manufacturers for any room in your home, including the kitchen. In today’s part two, we’ll go over a few specific areas of the kitchen where wallpaper is often put to best use, plus some of the basic style and color themes you might be considering as you move forward with this particular project.

Statement Walls

One of the more popular modern themes for the use of wallpaper in the kitchen is the statement wall, which is a specific wall area that’s highlighted with differing colors or aesthetics. You can put a statement wall in several potential areas depending on your kitchen layout, whether it’s behind the sink and hob or in another area.

One reason statement walls are so popular is the versatility they offer. Many of the bolder designs you might choose here would not work for your entire kitchen – they would be too loud and might overwhelm the rest of the room. But when confined to a single wall, they offer an excellent color accent that spices up the entire room.

Shelve Backing

Another popular wallpaper theme in the kitchen is using it to color up the backs or bottoms of your shelves or cabinets. Many even consider small wallpaper pieces in their drawers. These add some nice touches of style to commonly-used areas in your kitchen, plus often help you maintain the style of the rest of the kitchen through well-placed accents.

When considering wallpaper for the kitchen backsplash, or the area behind the counter or sink, we highly recommend going with a vinyl material. This product has the durability to stand up to the elements in the kitchen, namely water from the sink and other potential oil or liquid spills. It also is available in a wide variety of colors and styles.

Color Themes

When it comes to choosing the color and pattern for your wallpaper in the kitchen, much of the choice is up to you. Many choose to complement other nearby room aesthetics, while others look for a dynamic, colorful kitchen that diverges from the rest of the home. Make sure you consider not only the colors themselves, but how they interact with cabinets, countertops, tile and other major design themes in your kitchen.
